Combustion System Requirements

Handling the Product

In order to maintain product integrity the preferred method of displacing the product would be with a belt conveyor or large screw auger (10 inches diameter or larger).

Storage of Product

The preferred long term storage method for this product would be large hopper bottom bins. The product must be kept dry. The minimum slope of the hopper recommended is 45 degrees with a minimum 1 square foot discharge opening.

Delivery System

The preferred method of metering the product into a combustion unit is with a slow speed auger. The auger should be made with coal flyting and should be a minimum of 4 inches in diameter.

Combustion System

During the past year, Prairie Bio-Energy has been testing the product in various systems. Some of these systems include the following:

  • Blue Flame Stoker
  • Pelco Heating System
  • Decker
  • Ryte Heating System
  • In order to properly combust biomass it is recommended that the system can handle larger volumes of ash and should also be equipped with a particulate emission control device such as a cyclone or bag house to minimize fly ashes.
